「モナカ」は和菓子の「最中（もなか）」に着想を得て創作されました。外側が硬く、中身に餡子が詰まっている構造を使っています。序章と終章には硬質な動きで空間が占められ、その間には甘さや柔らかさを含んだ人間模様が満ちています。
日本人独特の身体、テンポ、リズムに拘りながら、めぐりめく四季折々の景色、儚い時間の層について追求した作品です。また、ダンス「モナカ」を記念して、和菓子店や菓子職人がコラボレーション商品としてオリジナルモナカを生産し、ツアーの地域ごとに様々なオリジナルモナカが誕生しています。

"Monaka" was inspired by the Japanese sweet "Monaka". The outside is hard puff and the inside is packed with red-beans jam. The prorogue and epilogue are occupied by hard movements, filled with human patterns including sweetness and softness like jam.
This is a work that pursues the scenery of the seasons and the layer of ephemeral time, wandering around the Japanese physicality and rhythm.
